SOME ACHIEVEMENTS IN CROP PROCESSING AND UTILIZATION

(i) Process of producing high quality sweet wine (8-12% v/v) and dry wine (17-18% v/v) through fermentation of cocoa juice has been developed.

(ii) Washing liquid soap and bar soap have been developed and are being produced with potash (92% purity) extracted by crystallisation from cocoa pod husk.

(iii) Cheap feeds for pigs have been developed and are being produced using dried cocoa pod husk to replace 25% maize in the feed composition.

(iv) Recipes for pure chocolate bars and chocolate blends with kola, coffee or cashew have been developed. These have received the approval of the National Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) of the Federal Ministry of Health.

(v) Kola flavoured wines have been developed and commercialised.

(vi) Kola pod husk - based diet has been produced. This ensured 60% replacement of maize in poultry feed formulation.

(vii) Kola testa has been used in snail feed production

(viii) Kola-flavoured chocolate has been produced and commercialised.

(ix) Coffee wine has been developed as added-value product of coffee.

(x) Eight edible products namely: cashew apple juice, cashew apple drink, cashew apple vinegar, cashew apple wine, cashew apple gin, cashew apple candy, cashewpectin and cashew apple jam have been developed from the pseudo-apple of cashew which is usually discarded after harvesting the cashew nuts.

(xi) Cashew chocolate and cooking oil have also been developed using cashew kernel.

(xii) Cottage-scale cashew apple juice extractor has been fabricated, developed and is in use for producing bottled cashew juice.

(xiii) Cocoa Bread: A recipe of bread with Cocoa powder supplementation in the dough. Taste, appearance and storage assesment were rated higher for this recipe than normal bread.

(ix) Cocoa Custard:A Custard recipe incorporating cocoa powder.

(x) CRIN VITA: A special Cocoa beverage formulation

(xi) Cocoa - Cola beverage : A 50 : 50 beverage incorporating Cocoa and Kola powder retains the stimulating effect of kola.

(xii) Cocoa - Cake: A Cake recipe incorporating cocoa powder.

(xiii) Black Soap: A new formulation of black soap sourced from cocoa pod husk. An improved versionof what is availablein local market.

(xiv) Cocoa Biscuit: A Special biscuit formulated with cocoa powder inclusion.

(xv) Soy Chocolate: A Soya flour and cocoa powder blend served in liquid form, cold and hot.

(xvi) Choco - gari: A Special gari formulation with the Introduction of cocoa powder into the mash. Very nutritious for children.

(xvii) Choco toffee; A Candy like (sweet) product containing cocoa, which is highly relished by young and old.
